Who are the Brothers of the Christian Schools?

The Brothers of the Christian Schools (more popularly known as the De La Salle Christian Brothers) are the largest group of religious laymen in the Catholic Church dedicated exclusively to the ministry of education. We are "Brothers" (not "priests" who engage in sacramental ministry) who dedicate our lives to God, to the Gospel, to the ministry of education in the Catholic Church, especially the poor and disadvantaged. The Founder of the Brothers was St. John Baptist de La Salle (1651–1719) who in 1950 was declared the Patron Saint of All Teachers of Youth in the Catholic Church. There are some 5000 Brothers serving in 84 countries around the world. Our educational scope here in the United States includes 6 Colleges/Universities, 54 high schools, 16 middle schools and 15 educational centers.
